Nothing Much

Just a quick post to let you know we're still here. Last weekend was super crazy and it looks like we're going to have the company we were supposed to have last weekend this weekend. So it'll probably be another quick one for us. Sarah's dress finally came in. Carmen's was in 2 weeks ago, so I don't know what the holdup was. I think we're going to go down Sunday to pick it up. Oh, and I think I got our Bed, Bath, & Beyond registry all fixed. That's about all I've got for right now. If I don't update again, have a good weekend!

16 WEEKS!!!

That's right, in just 16 weeks it will be our wedding day. How's that for scary??

Sorry, still no pics of Doug's ring. I have absolutely no excuse, because we spent most of our day off together yesterday doing a whole bunch of nothing. I cleaned like a mad woman on Thursday so we could enjoy our day together and we did. We slept late, lingered over our coffee, went out to lunch and then came home and vegged out on the couch. It was nice. We're also dogsitting this weekend, and mom brought Jack over about 6, so after dinner we took him on a long walk. Then we came home and watched our movie from Netflix. (We have a free month trial and got our first movie yesterday. It was nice not having to fight the crowds at the video store only to come home empty-handed because all the good movies were already gone.)

Now our day of leisure is gone and I'm at work. I'll be here until 5 tonight, but then there's still Sunday & Monday. Gotta love holiday weekends. We don't really have big plans for the weekend. Maybe some barbecuing and some sitting down and hammering out some wedding details. I'll keep you posted.

Oh, we did cross another thing off the list yesterday. The girl I called a few weeks ago about doing hair for the bridal party called back yesterday and is available for our date. She's going to come and do our hair on-site, and it's going to cost less than going to the fancy day-spa that I called the other day. Still don't know what to do about make-up, but we'll figure it out. Maybe I should just start practicing. :) We've been having such good luck getting good deals on our wedding stuff. It's just crazy. Of course, it wouldn't happen without all of you passing along your great ideas, tips, and offers to help in every which way. We appreciate it so much and it makes us so happy that everyone wants to be a part of our day.

More Pictures

We were so busy rearranging furniture this morning that I didn't have a chance to get a picture of Doug's ring. So here's some pictures of our new furniture and our newly arranged living room instead. I'll try to get Doug's picture tomorrow.

Here's a view of the whole living room from the kitchen doorway.

Loveseat & sofa. The afghan on the loveseat is one that my mom made for Doug & I as a housewarming present. It goes so nicely with the color of the new furniture.

The flowers on the table are from our own peony bush.
I just cut them last night and they smell heavenly!!

Wedding Rings

Our wedding rings came in today, and I thought all our readers out there might want to see what I'm going to look like as a married woman! :)

Beautiful, aren't they? I LOVE the two rings together. What a perfect suggestion, Patty! Thank you so very much! Oh, and Doug's is nice too! :) I'll make him model his tomorrow for you guys.

Getting Closer

It's been awhile since I've posted anything. I guess we just haven't had much to tell since we got the cake. That was a big thing and I think we're about done with those. If not, please remind me! Let's see we bought pop for the reception this weekend and I think mom bought more pop and some napkins. See, there hasn't been anything exciting to blog about.

We had a fun weekend though. Doug & I did some yard work on Saturday. Doug actually started it on Friday and did the bulk of it. I got to plant some flowers and do some raking. It really looks alot better. There's still alot of work to be done, but we wanted to concentrate on the most visible spots for now. After the yard work we went to Sammy's ball game (she did great, btw!) and then spent a few hours with Eric & Becky. Good times. By the time we got up Sunday we were pretty tired from all the yard work and staying up late so we took it easy yesterday. I cooked lunch & dinner (we missed breakfast) and we just hung out. It was nice to have a lazy day together. We spend so many of our weekends running from place to place that it was a treat just to stay home and be together. Plus, it saved us gas & money! :)

Here it is Monday again and back to work for us. I'm working Monday thru Wednesday this week, taking Thursday & Friday off, but I do have to work on Saturday. Doug's working his normal schedule, but he'll of course have the long weekend and I sort of will. I'll check in later!

Hey it's me again...I forgot to mention one thing this morning. My hairdresser is going to be out of town the weekend of my wedding, so I've got to find someone to do our wedding hair. If anyone has any recommendations, I'd appreciate it!

Mmm...cake!

The cake is ordered! Mom, Dad, & I visited Shonelle's Cake Affair last night and she had some really great designs and even better were her prices. I know everyone was a big fan of Bev's, but my cake (and Doug's groom's cake) is going to be half the price of Bev's. She also comes highly recommended from some of my parents' oldest and closest friends. I'll try to describe the cake the best I can. It's going to have 3 tiers on an invisible stand and the cakes are going to be square. The bottom tier will have greenery around it and the top two will be wrapped with ribbon and there will be flowers on top of each layer. Ooohhh...and I can't forget about the flavors! The wedding cake is going to be white on our top layer, strawberry in the middle layer (it'll be pink!) and white on the bottom. Don't worry all you chocolate fans, the groom's cake is going to be chocolate. :) The groom's cake is also going to be decorated with Doug's favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs (like everyone didn't already know that.) I think that is all the wedding stuff we got accomplished this weekend. There's still a lot more to do, but it's coming together little by little.

ETA: I can't believe I forgot to mention that we registered at Bed, Bath, & Beyond. It was quite the experience. Very overwhelming and I'm still making changes to it. I'll say one quick thing and then shut up because I feel like we are begging for gifts. The dinnerware I registered for at Dillard's they also had at BB&B, the lady helping us said to go ahead and register for it both places and then just make the necessary changes. That's all fine, but I want to mention that at Dillard's it is cheaper. Yes, I was shocked too, but it is true. Not that I'm saying that anyone has to get us the dinnerware or anything else for that matter. I was just passing along the info. Okay, I'll shut up now. Have a great day!

Yay for Early Wedding Presents!!

Here's the new furniture we got from Doug's mom for an early wedding present yesterday. I LOVE IT!!! I'll post a picture when my living room is not covered in laundry.

Funny story about this new furniture...when Doug's brother called to tell us that he had a sofa & loveseat to match our recliner that we bought 2 years ago we were pretty excited. He had told us previously that they weren't really making any of the black microfiber stuff anymore. So we went and looked at it in the showroom and they had it in mocha. Well, when we bought our recliner they didn't have it in black then either, so we had to order it. I guess we just thought that's what we would do this time. Imagine our surprise when we opened it up yesterday and saw the brown. We had about a half second of hesitation before we decided that we actually liked it better than the black and would rather have that anyhow. So the black recliner went downstairs and now we just have the sofa & loveseat. Maybe we'll get another recliner or chaise or something later on down the road, but for now we couldn't be happier with what we have. It was definitely a happy accident! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Sandy!!!

I'm too sleepy to come up with a clever title...

I'm ready for bed, but I promised Doug I'd stay up until he got off work. Just a half hour more to go. I don't know if I'm going to make it or not!

Mom & I missed our appointment with the cake place last week because of the weather. We rescheduled for this coming Monday. I will get to sample some cake from Bev's tomorrow night at Doug's cousin's graduation party. Yay! I'll be paying close attention, although to be quite honest, I've never met a cake I didn't like. : )

I think we're going to order our wedding bands this week and after talking to one of Doug's other cousin's, I've decided to take her up on her far too generous offer to help with the flowers. I also found out this week that my mom's friend's daughter has a slip for under my gown that I can borrow (that saves me at least $40) and this same girl also has votive cups and mirrored tiles from her wedding reception that she is going to let me borrow for my centerpieces. The best part about borrowing is not because it won't cost us anything, but because we won't have to figure out what to do with the all the stuff when we are done with it. We can just give it back.

We're really almost there. Hard to believe, isn't it?

Registered!

I did our first registry last night at Dillard's. I just did it online since we already knew just what we wanted there (dinnerware & stemware). Now if we could just find time to go and do the rest!

Owies & Flowers & Chairs...OH MY!!!

As I was getting ready for work yesterday morning, I burnt my wrist on my curling iron. I always end up doing my hair & make-up right before I leave for work and consequently I am always rushed. I was trying to wrap up the cord of the hot iron when I accidentally touched it to my arm. It stayed just a little too long and left a really nasty mark. I ran cold water on it, put on some aloe vera gel and went to work. Luckily we have an aloe plant at work so I was able to keep the aloe on it all day and it was really working. Unfortunately mom & I ran around after work last night and I forgot to apply anything again until about 8:30. By then it had started to blister and then I must have layed on it last night because the blister had popped this morning. Now it really hurts! I hope it doesn't leave a nasty scar, because it will probably show in my wedding pictures.

Mom & I tried to make another practice bouquet last night...we give up! We can do many, many crafty things (especially mom), but doing the wedding flowers is not one of them. Does anyone have any flower shops that you would recommend?

I think we've figured out a rough estimate of chairs that we will need for the ceremony. We'd rather have too many, instead of not enough. Our big concern is what are we going to do if it rains? How will we fit all those people in the house? I don't think our ceremony will last long, so at the very least, no one will be uncomfortable for too awful long.

Accomplished!

I got everything done today that I said I was going to...oh except go to the flower shop. I did run up to Michael's though to see if they had the flowers we needed if we were going to make them ourselves and they did. :) Mom & I are going to go to another cake place on Monday after work. Maybe we'll get samples there!

Updates

The shower went well last weekend. I think mom & I really did a great job pulling everything together at the last minute (we had less than 2 weeks to plan.) Now the focus has shifted back to our wedding in full force. Even Doug says the wedding planning is starting to get to him. Tomorrow, is my day off so I'm planning to call a few more places about cake (we have to make a decision soon, otherwise we'll be baking our own!) and I'm going to visit a flower shop. One of the grandmas' of the kids from my storytime at the library works part-time at one here in town and she said I should stop in and have a look. I'm conflicted over the flowers. I like the idea that the silk flowers will last forever, but the stress of having to do it is what is getting to me. Now, we have plenty of time so I'm sure it could be done, but if I could find them cheap enough and nice enough at a flower shop, I may have to go that direction. We'll see. I'll just go look tomorrow. My problem is that I am easily swayed and I hear an idea and latch onto it quickly. That's why it is always better for someone to go with me. I need a voice of reason.

We had lunch over the weekend with Doug's parents. We've definitely ruled out one place for the rehearsal dinner. We've got a few more ideas though.

We're starting to finalize the guest lists. Mom's ready to order the chairs so we've got to get a number to her soon.

Oh, and not wedding related, Doug finally got a Wii. It is so much fun!! If you want to try it out, I'm sure Doug would be happy to have you over.

Well, time to get ready for work. Have a great day!
