Everyday is a new lesson in our house. Katie's learning about the world around her and Doug & I are learning how to parent a toddler (19 months today!) This morning Katie learned all about what happens if you don't stay out of the kitty's face.
Poor girl. Tess, not Katie. She so did not want to be bothered, laying in the sunshine, but Katie just kept getting right down there. Tess gave her several warning hisses. I overheard and told Katie that the kitty didn't want to play, but she wasn't having it. And so Tess did what any annoyed kitty would do and nipped, I did what any Mommy would do and yelled and Katie did what any baby would do and cried. It all lasted about 30 seconds and then I cleaned up the mark on Katie's arm and she got a bandaid. I don't think any of us were too traumatized.

A Tail of Two Kitties
| That's Tess on the left & BJ on the right. |
I think they will all be great friends one day.

Slightly More Motivated
We took the kitties to the vet this morning. They weren't sick, just needed their vaccinations and a check up. Both are in good health, although Tess is about 2 pounds over-weight. Since we feed them from one dish and separate dishes just wouldn't work, we're probably going to have to exercise her more. She used to really love chasing the laser light, but the battery died and we haven't gotten around to replacing it. Surprisingly, Tess has already gotten over being in the carrier and seeing the vet (even though she bit me this morning), but BJ is still hiding. Oh well, he'll come out when he's ready.
Other than that, I haven't done much else today. I made chicken & biscuits for lunch, but I really need to get the house picked up. And it probably wouldn't hurt to start packing. Angela, Desire & I are leaving Friday morning at 7 and driving to Madison, WI to visit Carmen, Josh, & Hazel.
Doug's dad is now at KU Medical Center. He's been there since Friday night. He was diagnosed with lung cancer and they are going to do the biopsy tomorrow. So far, the plan is to have him transferred back up to the VA hospital in Leavenworth, hopefully on Thursday. Doug's going to go down tomorrow morning before the surgery to see him. We'll know more about his condition afterwards. Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers you are sending him. We really appreciate it.

Merry Christmas (Eve)
It was Christmas Eve morning and all through the house, not a creature was stirring not even a cat...
Okay, that's not true. BJ has really been having fun with the tree now that I have moved the ornaments down again, but Doug is still sleeping (he had a long day yesterday) and Tess is really almost always quiet. The house is fairly quiet for us though.
We spent most of yesterday getting the house ready for our family dinner tonight and now all that is left is the cooking. I think we figured out how long it will take everything to cook, so we are good to go there. The presents are all wrapped and under the tree. So I guess we're ready!
With that said, I need to get started on my cake for tomorrow.
From our house to yours, Merry Christmas! Love, Doug & Misty

What?? Another Post? But it's Only Been 4 Days!
I'm just killing some time waiting for the chicken to be done (yes, I make chicken at 9:30 in the morning, doesn't everybody?). Back to work this week and it was not fun. The kids at the library had that little taste of long weekend and now there's no looking back until Christmas break. I feel sorry for my brother-in-law and his wife and all the rest of those teachers out there! It's going to be a very long 4 weeks.
I started the Christmas shopping this morning by ordering a few things online. I'm so paranoid that they won't arrive in time. I love shopping online though. It's so much nicer to be able to sit here in my bathrobe, enjoying my coffee and clicking around online looking for the perfect gift. Eventually that's probably how I'll do all my shopping.
Now I'm watching BJ play with his new favorite toy...a paper towel tube! He loves rolling it across the floor and wrestling with it. At least he's not messing with the Christmas tree right now. He & Tess both have been caught under it and in it. So far we've only had one ornament casualty and it was just one of the cheap-o shiny Christmas balls. I can deal with them breaking those and of course the really precious ornaments are at the top of the tree anyway. I'm just waiting for the day when I come home and the whole tree is on the floor. I know it's going to happen at some point!
Well, my chicken is done now and I need to get in the shower and get ready for work so that Doug & I can actually have lunch together before I leave. Happy Tuesday!
